A Study on the Classification for Pediatric Critical Patients in a General Hospital-Application of the Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System


Abstract
This study was designed to classify the patients in PICU with Therapeutic Intervention Scoring System (TISS) and to identify the characteristics according to patients class.
The data of 222 patients admitted into PICU were collected using the T.LS.S. from July 1 to October 18 in 1986.
The tool used for classifying the pediatric critical patients was the T.I.S.S. revised by Keene.
All of the data were. analyzed by percentage, one-way ANOVA (p < 0.05), and Scheffe Test (p < 0.05).
The Results of this study were summerized as follows;
1) The distribution of the subjects by age was a marked predominance of infants.
2) The mortality rate was 7.2 %. The mortality rates were that cardiovascular patients were 4.9 % and other surgery patients were 14.9 %.
3) Average period staying in ICU was 5.2 days. Nonsurvivors stayed in ICU longer than survivors.
4) Nonsurvivors had higher admission TISS, maximum TISS, mean TISS, and discharge TISS scores than Survivors.
5) Comparisons were made among the 3 services, Cardiovascular surgery patients had the higher TISS scores than either medicine or other surgery patients.
